Scalable Network Technologies Unveils QualNet 3.5 at Milcom Conference

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 8, 2002--Scalable Network Technologies (SNT, booth 420) released a new version of QualNet Software today at Milcom 2002. Conference attendees in the Milcom exhibit hall were the first to see QualNet 3.5, a software product for computer network modeling. The new release supports a larger variety of computer and communication networks, and consists of a family of products geared towards specialized network model development teams. A significant addition to QualNet 3.5 is QualNet Importer, a module for collecting data from existing networks and importing that information into a QualNet model.

Because of QualNet's origins as a military communications research and development tool, the company chose to launch the family of products at Milcom 2002, the military communications conference. The theme of Milcom this year was the global information grid, enabling transformation through 21st century communications. The first QualNet model library, released in 1999, supported mobile ad hoc networks that enable network-centric warfare. Today, QualNet models a wider variety of networks, including networks with Quality of Service technologies, LANs, WANs, satellite, cellular, WLANs, and mobile ad hoc networks.

The QualNet 3.5 Family of Products consists of the following 5 elements:

  1. QualNet Developer for building and executing custom network models
  2. QualNet Model Designer for teams developing custom network models
  3. QualNet Simulator for executing models
  4. QualNet Planner for experimentation with existing networks and technologies
  5. QualNet Parallel Simulator for execution of simulations on parallel computers to achieve maximum scalability and speed

With the QualNet 3.5 release, the product's code development environment has been greatly enhanced. This tool, included with QualNet Developer and Model Designer, helps speed up model development using an intuitive finite state diagram notation. The tool has been revamped to look and function more like a typical interactive development environment, with easy navigation between the state diagram and source code, as well as richer features for code editing.

QualNet 3.5 also has a dozen new additions to its library of network models. The new models broaden the range of networks you can simulate with QualNet. Among the new models are Voice over IP, 802.11 PCF, access list routers, and a detailed switch model that supports spanning tree protocol and VLANs.

"QualNet has matured extensively in the last year," said Rajive Bagrodia, the Founder and President of Scalable Network Technologies. "We feel that today QualNet has all the attributes necessary to make it the tool of choice to analyze technologies in support of homeland security and network-centric warfare. QualNet is becoming widely adopted among defense contractors, research labs, and companies with mission-critical computer and communication networks."
