Announcing QualNet Developer 4.5!
SNT has completed development of a new release, QualNet 4.5, which has these main enhancements:
- New Sensor Networks Library (802.15.4 or Zigbee)
- New Network Security Library
- New UMTS Library
- Enhanced Urban Propagation Models
Another important change is the inclusion of two model libraries into the base QualNet Developer product. Prior to 4.5, customers purchased the Wireless Library and the Multimedia and Enterprise Library as add-ons to QualNet Developer. Now, QualNet Developer comes with the Developer Library, Wireless Library and Multimedia and Enterprise Library included.
Parallel Enhancements
QualNet has enhanced parallel support for interfaces, including the Network Emulation Interface (IPNE). Also included is a utility API for keeping track of real-time status.
Other New Models
There are a number of other new models in QualNet
4.5, including:
- IEEE 802.11s MAC (mesh networking). This is multihop mesh networking implemented at the link layer that expands the coverage of access points. Capabilities implemented include Mesh Points (MPs), Mesh Portals, Mesh Initialization, Neighbor Discovery, and HWMP (Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol) layer2 routing.
- Battery Model. This model precisely evaluates energy consumption and the service lifetime of a node, including non-linear battery discharge rate and recovery effect during sleep mode.
- Energy Model. This model controls consumption of energy and is closely tied to the battery model.
- IP over MPLS. This model interconnects IP subnets to an MPLS backbone.
- Urban Models
o Outdoor urban pathloss
o Foliage model (urban/suburban)
- Dead Reckoning Mobility
Updated Models
Many existing models were updated for this release, including:
- IEEE 802.16 MAC (WiMAX). New functionality includes PDU packing/unpacking, fragmentation/ reassembly and CRC, ARQ, CDMA based ranging and bandwidth, admission control, idle mode and paging, and sleep mode.
- IEEE 802.11 MAC. This updated model now better complies with the IEEE specification, specifically, the BSS management procedures. It is also now IPv6 compliant.
- Dual IP. QualNet now supports Dual IP at the interface level.
- Abstract Cellular has runtime performance improvements to work with very large scenarios.
- ARP is updated to support all MAC protocols
- Packet Tracer supports more protocols.
- OLSRv2. This model supports multiple interfaces and conforms to the latest IETF draft.
- Satellite
o added multiple channel support to SAT RSV MAC
o added downlink traffic conditioning for SAT ANE
o improved configuration in Scenario Designer
o IPv6 support
- DiffServ is now IPv6 compliant.
- Messenger App now supports IPv6.
- Traffic Gen is now IPv6 compliant.
- Network Emulation Interface Library (IPNE) now supports:
o MAC address auto-configuration
o a wider variety of parallel computing platforms
o removal of static next-hop configuration
o TCP plus TCP standalone server applications
o configurable precedence
